FRIDAY 14th JANUARY 2022 🍏
We're back! After a much enjoyed festive break, we return with a positively wintery menu of seasonal classics that's packed with the best January produce.
We gave a brief thought to doing a 'veganuary' menu or a dairy free one etc, but then thought that you can do that at home on a boring old Tuesday... We're here to bring a bit of light to the January gloom and give you a bit of restaurant quality luxury for you to look forward to come Friday. As a welcome back offer, we've knocked 10% off the price of the feast. So for this week only, 1 x feast is £23 delivered. Yes £23 for 3 courses!
Please note that our '6 person discount' is now automated. Just add any 6 feasts to your cart and the discount will be applied automatically at checkout. Buy 5 and get the 6th on us.
Read on to hear a little about the menu and a lovely dry Normandy cider or local apple juice to go with...
We start with a warming, nourishing and down right delicious minestrone soup, that will be packed with Italian winter tomatoes, local cavolo nero as well as the usual veg base. Little fregola balls give a welcome texture and a luxurious hazelnut pesto brings zing and freshness. A heart warming start to the menu that might just transport the mind to warmer climes.
For the main we're doing a winter classic - 'poulet à la Normande' - a beautiful chicken dish that originates in Northern France. Organic chicken thighs will be pot roasted with smoked lardons, celeriac and onions in Eric Bordolet's Normandy cider until harmonious and tender. We'll stir in crème fraîche for a bit of lifted luxury and create a super delectable dish. Veggies rejoice with miso & apple celeriac version sans-le-lardons but with added winter mushrooms. Both will be served with gruyère topped mash for you to bake until crispy topped and lashings of greens for a bit of January healthiness. A properly wintery main that's as joyous to eat as it is to look at. Delicious with Eric Bordolet's crisp and dry sparkling organic cider made with no less that 15 varietals. At 5.5% percent, you can feel positively righteous drinking the whole bottle. Or if you're staying away from the hooch this Jan, then we've got Tiddly Pommes' tart Oxford apple juice as the perfect no-alc match.
Fruit and winter aren't really friends here in old Blightly, but fortunately Italian blood oranges are just coming in to season, so on the dessert they feature in all there luminous glory, in an upside down cheesecake. Light, delicate and with just the right amount of sweetness, it's a smile inducing end to our inaugural feast of 2022. See you Friday?
CIDER AND APPLE JUICE 🍏
We thought that we would mix it up for our first week back and go with some apply stuff to match the main course this week. We've got a stunning dry, sparkling Normandy Cider from doyen producer Eric Bordelet or Tiddly Pomme's Oxfordshire apple juice for those that may be staying away from the booze.
SIDRE BRUT, Eric Bordelet, Chateau de Hauteville, Normandy
Sidre Brut is dry, mellow, lively and with a refreshing acidity. Very clean and funk-free, making it a great foil for this week's Normandy chicken main. There are roughly 15 different types of apple which make their way into the blend, all grown organically at Eric's estate since the 60's. Very easy to drink a whole bottle of in one sitting, it's the perfect low-ish alcohol treat and the a great match for this week's main course. Delicious. 750ml bottle. 5.5%. Add on for £10.
LATE BRAMLEY, Tiddly Pomme's, Apple Juice, Oxfordshire
Tiddly Pommes are a ‘micro enterprise’ who turn apples that would otherwise be unused into delicious juice. Although not certified organic, the apple juice comes from local trees not under heavy chemical treatment regimes, is not filtered and contains no added ingredients. Traditional juice, just as it should be. Pasturised juice made from relatively acidic Bramley apples, collected from local gardens and orchards in the Oxford area. It's the perfect alcohol free addition to this weeks Normandy chicken main course. 750ml bottle. Add on for £4.5
